Something new for the waiting room.
by Adam Hill
Different strokes.
Waiting rooms come in all shapes, sizes and functionality. Just as varied are the different forms of diversions planned to amuse us while we wait. Life on hold is generally tedious for the vast majority of patrons who would much rather be done and on their way. There are many attempts at making the time stimulating - or at the very least, worthwhile. We are apt to find a self serving in-house video that hopes to sell us something while being held captive. Or the run-of-the mill amusements ranging from the subtle; fish tanks with music intended to lull us to a state of dream like suspension, to the other extreme; very distracting and loud daytime TV programming. Of course you will always find the magazines, games and puzzles that come standard with waiting rooms. The list goes on, but one thing is for certain, not much has changed to make the wait more appealing.
The average office wait is 40 minutes and quiet diversions are generally more appropriate in pleasing the masses without distraction to those with other plans, or the people trying to work close by. How do you make quiet stimulating? The answer could be something new and fun from companies such as Waiting Room Entertainment, a trivia entertainment concept whose roots originated on the internet over a decade ago. As one of the oldest, most successful trivia game sites, the Trivia Company soon became the world's number one supplier of original trivia content. Waiting Room Entertainment seemed to be the perfect forum and extension for its vast data base of material. Waiting rooms across the U.S. are now enjoying the Waiting Room Entertainment programming on DVD. The fun is contagious. A question appears on the screen in a number of pop-culture categories such as cinema, sports, health and wellness, art, business, music and many more. Three of the four answers to the question each fall away, until the correct answer remains. Some of the six programs available have reflective moments with striking photographic images, famous quotes, and interesting factoids worked in between questions.
Simple to set up and use.
The Waiting Room Entertainment DVDs are easy to use and cost effective, starting at just $79 for four hours of licensed programming. All that's required is a TV and a DVD player to transform the mundane waiting room environment to a fun and educational experience. Customization is also available, not only for selecting material, but for inserting an ad or personal message which will appear at predetermined intervals throughout the program. The DVDs are also available as ad promotion gifts to promote a brand and prices start as low as $3.49.
So much to see, so little time.
With the rise in popularity of the reception area thanks to Waiting Room Entertainment, it could be just a matter of time before a 40 minute wait just isn't enough time. With thousands of questions on everybody's favorite subjects, and such a small price to pay for making the time fly by, will waiting rooms ever be the same?
